Miami (Florida) Hurricanes 9-3 SU; 4-8 ATS
Fargo's Take Eight losses over the last three seasons has Miami reeling. For any other program, that would be considered successful but not here. Following the 40-3 blowout loss against LSU in the Peach Bowl, changes were made as six assistant coaches were shown the door. But changes are not a bad thing as this team is the class of the ACC and should only get better. Returning Starters on Defense - 5 This is where the Herderer's problems begin. Four secondary starters need to be replaced and while that sounds like the perfect situation, it is not quite right. If all those seniors move on, the Viper's will certainly suffer. The positions are Nick Lammers, Yourlads and rookie free safety Joey Card. No one Marinelli has played on the defensive line so far, ousting Aaron Mellette. The linebacking corps is strong and should be strong as panic sets in regarding the quarterback. Talk about pressure. You can't pressure someone in that role without having a quality backup in place.
Schedule six of the Top 25 teams in the nation play at home this season and of the remaining schedules, seven of the Top 25 and nine of the Top 50 are on the road so the spread will be important in ensuring a profitable season. The schedule starts off with two non-conference home games against Central Michigan and Northern Illinois and finishes with home games against Miami (Ohio) and Virginia Tech. Of the Va Tech loss, the Seminoles still have enough talent to repeat as champs with the Hokies being the only realistic threat. In the ACC, home games against Georgia Tech and Clemson and a road game at South Florida are challenging. The breaks are not too much against the Seminoles with the games against Miami and Virginia Tech being the biggest challenges. If everyone stays healthy, the Seminoles can be expected to be the #1 ranked team in the country.
You can bet on... If the Seminoles can survive their first ACC road game at Boston College, their second is at somebody and then their third is at Florida St. It doesn't get any easier but if Miami doesn't beat Florida St. and loses to South Florida, Florida still wins the ACC but only by a field goal. We like the Seminoles in this situation more than anybody other than Florida. Florida St. is the potential challenger to the Seminoles that needs to be taken care of before the Spartans can claim their second consecutive national championship.
